Aqua America is all wet and proud of it. The utility holding company provides water and wastewater services through its operating subsidiaries to about 3 million residents in more than a dozen states, including Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The state of Pennsylvania is the company's most important market. Aqua America provides water or wastewater services to Philadelphia and in 24 other counties in Pennsylvania, which represents more than half of the company's operating revenues. It contracts with municipalities to operate their water and wastewater systems. The company has grown through more than 130 acquisitions since the early 1990s.
