Systemax's system involves being direct. The company is a direct marketer of computers and related products to businesses in North America and Europe. Through about 15 catalogs and 20 Web sites, Systemax offers more than 100,000 brand-name and private-label items. It operates through three business units: technology products, industrial products, and software solutions. The company also assembles its own computers, which are sold under the Systemax and Ultra brands. About 90% of revenue is generated from sales of PCs and laptops, hard drives, and networking gear. The Leeds family runs and owns about 70% of Systemax. The firm acquired the assets of defunct retailers CompUSA in 2008 and Circuit City in 2009.
